Racine Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Ottawa, Canada Time: 2000-02-11 04:12:49 Comments: Nice work! I think you and I are on the same skill level in model building. My favourite subject matter is 1960-1970 Mopar cars. Have you ever entered your kits in the "Modelrama" which is a contest event presented by the Autorama car show that travels around north america every year? I had the pleasure of entering it in 1984,85,87and88. To my suprise and pleasure, I won 2nd place in '84, people's choice in '85, two 2nd places in '87 and people's choice in '88!!!!! I might have grabbed 1st a couple of times but my weakness lies in body paint jobs; I never invested in a airbrush so my finish suffers somewhat. My strong point is interiors and engine detail. We'll have to swap tricks and ideas sometime. Keep up the good work! |

Yeah I started back in the 60's too, lost interest when I got married, had kids bought a big house etc., etc., etc. You know the drill. Just starting to get back into it trying to find some unique stuff like an '86 Mustang Cobra. Already found most of the 50's, 60's and 70's muscle I've been looking for but would really like to find that Cobra as I own one. I put it away every winter and would like to enjoy looking at it without having to go out into the cold or haul out a photo album! Anyways, looks like you,ve really got a nice touch. He as one time owned one and had to sell it for financial reasons and his dream is to own another one and remodel it. So I thought if I could have or find a model already built it would be nice. He misses it some much it is on his computer as the background screen. I would love to be able to built it myself but I don't know if I have the patience to do so, so how do I go about getting one built for me? Do you do built for others or just for your own private collection? If not, can you put me in touch with someone who does? I can be reached at the above email address(my job) or my home email address is lhmarlin@hotmail.com. Thank you for you time |

If you could(time permiting)Do you think you can send me some names of mail order model and hobby stores?those that carry the hard to find discontinued models. (If ya know of any). I've been looking for a tri-axle dump (semi-) trailer that's built by AMT 1:25 scale. AND ANOTHER THING . I know what you mean about not having the time or space to restore real muscle cars and fat fendered lead sleds. I too have a 1970 chevelle. I've had it since I was a senior in high school back in 90. It's been sitting in my folks drive way since 93 . I just can't bring myself to sell it. Working for two trucking companies thru the week and living in a townhouse apartment I can relate to you and building plastic scale models. Scott |

One car I've been trying to find for a while is the stock 57 shev nomad wagon as I built it around 20 years ago and I would like to build it again as it got lost, it seems to be a very difficult car to find, do you have any suggestions that might help me. Time: 1999-11-10 14:19:48 Comments: As someone who builds strictly 1/25 scale cars, I like what you've done with your kits. Now that AMT/ERTL has been bought by Racing Champions (Mainly NASCAR memorabilia), I think quality will go right out the door. Personally, I'm tired of buying Corvette, Firebird, and Camaro kits just to use the suspensions, engine/drivetrain, wheels and tires on my early model model kits. I just finished an AMT/ERTL 1960 Chevy pick-up turning it into a steerable model using the original suspension and installed a 1966 Chevy Impala 396 engine/tranny, and low-profile wheels/tires from an unknown kit. I also made it into a full-size 1/2 ton instead of the original fleetside. Hopefully, Racing Champions will turn out some better kits like a 1962 Chevy II or some 60's era Ford pickups. |

I started building models in 1968, my first being a Dodge Deora, hence my E-mail address. Anyhoo, I found your site by accident one evening and was astounded at the memories that your pics and info, not to mention ,links, stirred up. I really enjoyed model building ( all types, especially the Ed Roth ones) for a number of years, and recently, after a 2 decade hiatus, began to enjoy the craft once again. I recently received a catalog from a company called Micro Mart which is located in Berkly Heights, N.J. The reason I am conveying this tidbit is due to the picture of your metal kit car. MM carries a kit of a GTO Judge in metal and bills it as a kit form of the cars advertised in the sunday paper magazine section for princely sums. Well enough of my ramblings for now, I'll write again soon Thanks for the opportunity to mind trip for a while. Regards, Paul Fasolo South Plainfield N.J. |

My '61,'63 & '64 Impalas are lowriders and I have installed hydrolic kits on them to make them bounce up & down. They are pretty nice cars. My goal is to own the whole 1960's decade of Impalas but I am having trouble finding the '68 & 69 models. I also would like to have a '58 Impala but I am having no luck in finding that model as well. And to finish it off I made a veary detailed tralier hitch. And put some costom wheeles on it. And crome foiel. It turned out veary sharp and yes it was a pain to make, speciley the hitch. I am thirty-eight, and been modeling race cars for a few years now. Maybe I will send you a few pics someday. I have a question for you: How do you clean the cars once they become dusty? A few of my models look like abandoned wrecks, and I am hesitant on using water on the finish. Do you have a way of cleaning them? Again: Great page, super models (I loved that Chevy Wagon - Great work!) and keep on modeling. Regards Gerardo |

I was wondering, though if you have plans for the teardrop trailer you built. I'd love to build one myself. I don't know what the demensions or measurements would be for it. One other thing. Where do you get the wheels you use on your models. I recently found white wall vinyl tape for tires, but I just don't know where to find old school, smooth rims for my kustoms. Any ideas? Thanks for allowing me to bombard you with my questions. Jonathan Mathis jmathis@intekinfo.com |

Started with the old Revell series 56 Fords and Buicks. Tried the old AMT 3 in 1 series as stock, customs and racing. Now have a collection of nearly 100 unbuilt models of every discription. After moving to Florida I've set up a model shop in the screened garage. Now building British cars. Recently completed a MGB and Bug Eye Sprite. Currently working on a Mark II Jaguar. Takes about 4 to 6 months to complete. Enjoy giving models as gifts. Still like the NASCAR series and have built or collected serveral early releases. |

I'm into customizing. I've got a 55 Nomad converted to an ElCamino(not the original plan, but an accident destroyed the roof) that I'm almost done with. I'm also building a 57 Belair limo, a 54 chevy Dale Earnhardt fantasy NASCAR, and a slightly modified chevy van (mostly stock, but custom paint). I paint 1:1 cars for a living, but don't get much chance to play so models are an affordable solution. |

I am opening an automotive boutique/gallery in Mt Dora and was looking through web sites for examples to pattern our own web site after. I am a lifelong model car builder and clicked on you when I came across you listing. I have the need for a new web site designer and host as the person I use now has difficulty with communication, ethics and integrity. Are you interested in talking about what we want to do. I would like to deal with another "car person" as you would have a reference point for what we are trying to accomplish. If yhis interests you feel free to call at any time. Ron and Margie Crable, The Checkered Flag Motoring Gifts and Gallery, 36950 East Eldorado Lake Drive, Eustis, Florida 32726 800-837-7786. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. PS Its ok to call over the weekends, like your models too !!! Thanks in advance, Ron |

I enjoyed the story associated with the Phantom Double Cab Pick up. Thank you for the details for those of us who may want to try something like that. When you used contact paper on the tear drop trailer and wood panels on the car, what tips would you offer for getting it to adhere and lay flat on curves and not wrinkle.I am just getting into modeling and I read all sorts of references to painitng and following up with clear lacquer. Now this may be a dumb question but is it lacquered after all the paint finishing like rubbing it out then polishing? I use Novus 1 and 2 and a variety of polishing sheets.Anyway I rubbed out a body til it shined like a mirror and then attempted the clear lacquer which even the slightest coating ran on the highly polished surface and made it look dull. I have heard to use everything from lacquer, varithane, urithane and Future floor covering to give the project a deep gloss look. How do you use the clear lacquer? DO you rub out your finish first? Do you polish the lacquer between coats? have you ever used Future floor wax as a finish coat? If so, do you just spray it on and let it dry, no more rubbing or polishing. Any tips would be greatly appreciated,Thank you very much,Rawlin Potter |

I wondered if you have ever tried modeling your own design from scratch and how you would go about doing that, perhaps using clay to make a body similar to how a concept is done in clay by automakers. I'd be grateful if you could let me know of any materials well-suited to creating a model from scratch. Thanks! |

Struthers Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Windsor, NSW, Australia Time: 1999-05-22 12:16:11 Comments: G'day, Personally, I love the models and the website. I love doing models of the same type, '57 Chev being my personal favourite, and I am just learning how to make websites myself. I envy what you have done, although I am only 26 yrs old, not having a go at your age!, I would like to be building models, and creating websites for companies and other people. I am creating website's for my section at work (RAAF), the drycleaners I work for on Sunday, the Rural Fire Service I am a volunteer in and, of course, for my family. I am learning about editing images and creating my own, but HTML I have found to be very simple and you can do some things that make people oooohhhh! when they see what I have been "playing with". I'd better go, and I hope this message finds you and your family in good health. Sincerely, Matt Struthers |

I'm going on 54 years old, and have models going back to 1948, collected by myself and older brothers. These are originals, many of them obtained as promotional models from car dealer showrooms, others are the old "friction drive" models or kits from hobby shops "way back when", up through about '65. Right now I am trying to determine a fair market value for my rarest - an original MasterCaster diecast 1948 Packard convertible. A guy in Atlanta is interested, as he has a full-size restored car like it. Will appreciate any guidance or references to pricing guidelines. |

| Name: Steve Reeves Website: Referred by: Lycos From: Pittsburgh, PA. Time: 1999-04-08 18:03:27 Comments: I just wanted to say you have a great page here. Until I found it, I had no idea people put so much effort into model cars. I got into the hobby about four years ago, when I met someone at college who built them. He just painted them and glued them together, and then was done with it. I thought it sounded interesting, so I went out and bought a '95 Firebird from AMT (I think) .. I painted the body, some engine parts and then lost interest and tossed it in my closet. Anyway, fast forward to Christmas 98.. my girlfriends parents gave me a Revell Jeep kit because I mentioned the Firebird to them once for some reason... I figured I'd try modelling again, and I got hooked this time. I'm almost done the Jeep. (I don't have a great love of Jeeps, tho, so this'll probably be the only kit I build like this.) I intend to start modelling some of the older muscle cars next, because they're my favorite kind of cars. (A local shop has a '55 Corvette I have got to get, along with a GTO. I'm searching for a '64 1/2 Mustang, but haven't managed to find one yet... I saw one when I bought the Firebird years ago.. I probably shouldn't have passed it up.) Anyway, bvecause of your page, I'll probably be putting a lot more effort into my next kit. : |

Like you I saw the smae drawing in SAE and had to build it. There was just something about it. I tried for three months to contact the gent' mentioned in the article with no results, so I went ahead and built it from two spare parts box bodies, and a new kit of the Cameo. Three and a half months later, my 55 Chev.Cameo Ext Cab Duallie was completed, and not a moment too soon, on the eve of the 'Canadian National Model Contest'. I placed second to someone who had the same idea as you and I. My attempt the following year was First Place with the joining of the Caprice Taxi/Firechief Chevy and a 55 Nomad, a few flames, a bright yellow paint job and a few choice words........ I lost a lot of sleep over both of these models. My latest is a '40 Ford Ext Cab Duallie, I must be crazy. I'm having a great old time after being away from modeling for 30+ years Keep up the great work. Ralph L8r |

Just like you, I too saw the drawing in S.A.E and had to make it. I tried to contact the gentleman mention in the article so that I could purchase the Grille assembly, but got no reply. I decided to create mine from some garage sale bodies and a Cameo kit that I had. I ended up 3 1/2 months later with a completed model on the eve of the 'Canadian National Model Car Contest'. My model was an Extended Cab Duallie 55 Cameo, entered in 'Vans,Pickups, 4x4's and Light Utility' to my suprise it took 2nd Place. What a great feeling, concidering I lost a lot of sleep over this one. I said after that, no more scratch building like that again. So guess what I did last year?.........took the AMT 55 Nomad and the Caprice Taxi/Firechief Chevrolet miraculously worked the two together, added bright yellow paint, flames and the wheels & tires from the new Corvette and took FIRST PLACE. I'm having a great old time after being away from modeling for 30+ years. It looks like you and I have similar taste in autos. Keep up the great work Ralph L8r |

And just like you, neither have money or gagage space, I have a well kept minature 2 level garage with black & white checker flooring. My collection mostly consist of classic sports and GT cars and a few American muscle cars. Once again, great work on the detailing. Jesse |

Time: 1999-03-05 23:33:45 Comments: I am enjoying your page very much.I wish I had the patience to build models like your examples.I have been building models for 25 years and I still just can't wait to have one finished. So that I can see it on the shelf!I build stock cars, drag cars,60's muscle cars, rods and whatever will set still.I have always painted on the chrome for window openings and trim but I recently tried foil and wasvery frustrated with it.Any hints?Thank you,Keavin |

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only "big kid" that enjoys playing with models. I'm fairly new at this, so any tips, etc. that you would be willing to share would be much appreciated. It has taken me 41 years to get into modeling and, I must say, I have found it very relaxing and most enjoyable. I think your site is wonderful and the cars are fantastic. I'll be back again!!! Oh, thanks for sharing your cars with the rest of us. |

I have models that I would like to put on there, They arent as good as yours but I am still a learner. Once again, nice page! |
